Unlike regular community-based Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), staff or company-based saving groups in Uganda are member-owned initiatives governed by their own bylaws and closely tied to the workplace. This structure makes them easier to manage and a trusted anchor for members' everyday financial needs, enabling growth to happen steadily and often quickly.
Over time, many of these staff-based savings groups evolve into fully registered SACCOs. As membership grows, savings volumes rise, loan applications become more frequent and before long, records begin to pile up. What once worked for a small group of members becomes harder to manage, making the need for clear and reliable records inevitable.
This is the journey that Ankole Management Agency (AMA) Staff SACCO Ltd has walked since 2012. The staff SACCO was formed to support employees of Ankole Coffee Producers Cooperative Union Ltd (ACPCU) through accessible savings and affordable credit.
Based at the ACPCU Head Office in Kabwohe, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, the SACCO operates under the Cooperative Societies Act with a clear purpose; to help members save consistently and borrow wisely. Through its Back Office Services Activity (BOSA), members are supported to meet personal, family and long-term financial goals. Today, the SACCO serves over 100 members, with steady growth in both resources and assets.
As the SACCO continued to grow, managing records manually became increasingly challenging. To support this growth, AMA Staff SACCO Ltd partnered with SaccoSys software to automate core SACCO processes, including loan tracking, repayments and members' savings.
